Yang Young-Soon – Asaekkiga

Yang Youn-soon is a comic artist from Korea who made his debut in 1995. He created comics like 'NudlNude', 'Junk Book', 'Kidongi' ('The Little Boy'), 'Kungdariman' and 'Asaekkiga'. With his debut comic 'Nudlnude', Yang Young-soon brought forth a new way of showing sexuality in a comic. His use of metaphors and sumptuous graphics made him a popular artist for male readers. His later work, 'Kidongi' and 'Asaekkiga' also made him a popular artist for a juvenile audience.

A few years back I was reading comics blogs and found out that some enterprising individual(s) online had translated a few examples of a funny, surreal Korean comic strip known as Asaekkiga.  Maybe you learned about it then, too.

My interest piqued, I hired a reasonably-priced translator and had him dig up some information on the artist, 양영순 (Yang Young-Soon).

Clearly the man isn't just a comedic genius, his artwork itself is superb. I love the facial expressions he manages to capture on paper. Dig this look at his "1001" comic.

Oh, and did I mention he drew a comic called Nudl Nude that got turned into a couple of softcore Korean sex cartoons?  Fascinating!

My contact tracked down some articles for me but we didn't bother translating them.  In case you read Korean, check out this article and this stuff about his books.
